The Chicano Movement, along with the Civil Rights Movement, empowered queer Chicano youth and Allies to embrace our newfound sexual freedom. 1975 to 1982 were the explosive, underground disco years in L.A., and for the first time in the city’s history predominantly gay and straight Chicano youth flooded Hollywood’s dance floors. On the dance floor, Chicano and Chicanas found identity and freedom. While quite a few of from this generation died of AIDS the ones that did not have been instrumental in shaping, politics, planning, art, and fashion in the LA scene.
