This weekend, prepare to be exposed to new and exciting work by local Latinx artists at the 2017 CineArte Festival. From this Friday through Sunday, the Los Angeles LGBT Center will play host to new and classic films and visual artworks by members of LA’s queer Latinx community. From Miguel Arteta’s 1997 classic Star Maps to a collection of new short films about family, faith, and queerness, this weekend’s film slate is one you won’t want to miss.

Probably enough to be able to relate to Yoli, the heroine of Adelina Anthony’s Bruising for Besos, the centerpiece of this year’s CineArte Festival. In Anthony’s latest film, Yoli, a Xicana lesbian artist living in LA has to choose between old patterns and new vulnerability in order to find the love she wants. Bruising will screen on Saturday, after Friday’s Here. There. Everywhere. gallery exhibit, and followed by Star Maps on Sunday.
