Transgender speaker set to make history; first transgender caucus held
BY TROY MASTERS | Twenty-eight transgender delegates to the Democratic National Committee Convention convened today, holding the Democratic party’s first ever Transgender Caucus.
They were joined by Sarah McBride, a delegate from Deleware, who today will become the first transgender-identified speaker at a major political convention in history. McBride speaks tonight from the main podium between 5-6pm.
The delegation includes Dr. Marisa Richmond, a delegate from Tennessee who is also the official convention timekeeper first transgender person to be an officer of a major party political convention.
During the caucus a conservative protestor entered the room during the caucus and threw a chair at the assembled delegates. Transgender delegate Janice Covington Allison of North Carolina tripped over the chair and injured her ankle. She was hospitalized and is reported to be in good condition.
