The world’s first LGBTQ mariachi band, Mariachi Arcoiris de Los Angeles will return to Fuego at Hotel Maya in Long Beach for pride on May 23.
Unfortunately due to the Coronavirus and some restrictions still in place Long Beach’s LGBTQ annual pride events will not be happening in May however Fuego at Hotel Maya will still celebrate a socially distanced pride with the world’s first LGBTQ mariachi band at Fuego’s famous Sunday Brunch.
“Mariachi Arcoiris is a Fuego favorite and every time they play it is an event,” said Greg Guthrie, General Manager of the Hotel Maya. “They are incredible musicians, and our guests love their style and sound.”
The band is led by director Carlos Samaniego, and has performed around the world to great acclaim. The group is proud to have the first transgender mariachi in the world, Natalia Melendez as part of the group. While the group performs its repertoire to suit the LGBTQ community, all audiences also enjoy their presentation.
This unique ensemble was created as a safe haven for mariachi musicians who identify as LGBTQ to come together and perform traditional Mexican regional music in response to a “machista” and at times, discriminating subculture of the mariachi world.
Fuego, the modern, Latin infused restaurant and lounge, offers a unique seaside setting featuring 13-foot-tall glass walls that fully retract with seating on the patio area. Fuego’s stunning open-air views and expansive patio seating include the Pacific Ocean, Long Beach skyline and Queen Mary.
At Fuego’s famous brunch, Executive Chef Victor Juarez has prepared a mouth watering menu. For starters Chef Juarez recommends the Caramelized Plantains with a chipotle rum glaze topped with a cinnamon whipped cream. In-house specialties include the Ropa Vieja, Cuban style braised short rib with a black bean purée, crisp corn tortillas, pickled cabbage, caramelized plantains, and serrano cream, and the Fuego Salad which combines baby greens, chili dusted pecans, goat cheese, heirloom tomatoes, cilantro, Fuji apples and a creamy chipotle dressing. The Chorizo Skilled & Fried Eggs includes fried potatoes, onion, peppers, tomatoes, cream fresca, and avocado sauce. Tacos include a Cilantro Lime Chicken with cilantro, onion, and tequila cream.
For a little extra treat with your meal Fuego features one of the largest tequila offerings in Southern California. The mind-blowing Fuego Margarita is made from Reposado tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, and agave nectar. Also popular is the Spicy Paloma made with house-infused jalapeño Reposado, and grapefruit and lime juice. Fuego’s refreshing Red or White Sangria is also available.
