Ever since the historic Supreme Court decision to legalize abortion in the states 45 years ago, the right of women and female-bodied individuals to exercise choice has been under threat by conservative politicians and groups. With reproductive rights coming under fire in the new regime, learning about healthcare access in our community is more important than ever.
This Sunday, the City of West Hollywood will commemorate the historic Roe v. Wade decision by focusing on keeping the community’s access to healthcare free and open. Roe at 45: When Rights ≠ Access will feature guest speaker Dr. Willie Parker, whose work as an OB/GYN was just honored by the United Nations Office of Human Rights.
The free event, co-sponsored by Planned Parenthood Los Angeles, ACLU of Southern California, Advocacy Committee for Women’s Concerns, Anti-Defamation League, and Black Women for Wellness among other groups, will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at the NCJW|LA Council House at 543 N. Fairfax Avenue. To RSVP, visit NCJWLA.org.
