Hosted annually by The Greater Los Angeles Softball Association (GLASA), Sin City Classic brought together the United State’s finest athletes last weekend for three days of fun, competition and camaraderie. Our own local WeHo Dodgeball went to Las Vegas to compete.
There were 650+ dodgeball players across 84 teams in three divisions. Team winners for the divisions were the women’s team: Money Shot, the coed no-sting team: Park Her Sex Ton and the final team: Jake is a Loud Mouth Bitch.
“This tournament really offers a chance to bring the community together in a way other sporting events can’t. Seeing our straight friends come out to the bar and go to the parties after playing dodgeball all day means a lot and shows who the true allies are. The competition is fierce but the bonds formed off the court are what keep me coming back and continuing to play this sport,” Brendan Tickner, who was both a staff member and participant, said.
Sin City Classic – and the dodgeball tournament in particular – is more than just a competition though.
“Sin City Classic shows us that our community is worldwide. It’s allows us to meet new people who love playing competitive sports, and gives us an opportunity to have new experiences with people we’ve known for years,” Los Angeles player Ale Bustamante said.
