Progressive theatre for the entire community
Long Beach has many quality venues for theatre, but one local theatre company not only offers top-notch theatrical performances but does so with a goal of equity for all.
P3 Theatre Company, housed at the beautiful 800-seat Ernest Borgnine Theatre on Elm Avenue, provides professional theatrical stage presentations that assist in the enrichment of and are accessible to all income levels of the community.
“P3 Theatre Company fosters Progressive groundbreaking new and existing works that are available to the entire community, without bias, to include individuals, children, and families that have needs based on economic, medical and any other challenges that would prevent them from having access to the benefits of attending a live theatrical stage production,” said Jon Peterson Executive Artistic Director for P3. “We provide top quality, professionally produced theatrical works that provide paid employment opportunities for professional theatrical artists. We also strive to inspire and enlighten the community in an effort to achieve complete harmony and inclusivity.”
Volunteer-based, publicly supported and also a non-profit 501(c)(3), P3 goes above and beyond to put on progressive and groundbreaking works for the entire Long Beach and surrounding communities.
P3’s first mainstage season is just around the corner in September, and the lineup is not-to-be-missed. From September 13-29, P3 will be putting on “Evita”, following the young and ambitious Eva Peron’s meteoric rise to sainthood. Set in Argentina between 1934-1952, the Tony-winning musical follows Eva Duarte on her journey from poor illegitimate child to ambitious actress to, as the wife of military leader-turned-president Juan Peron, the most powerful woman in Latin America, before her death from cancer at age 33
Roles are still open for “Evita” and audition information for the production can be found at P3theatre.biz/auditions.
Other performances P3 has lined-up for the season include the funny and heartwarming film classic “Steel Magnolias”, Dramalogue Award-winning “Sordid Lives”, the Tony and Grammy award winning “Gypsy”, and Broadway classic “A Chorus Line.”
On top of producing top-notch theatre, P3 also offers educational theatre programs for people of all ages and walks of life. P3 Educates+ is a custom theatrical educational experience catering to all children – young and old.
“Designed for individuals, children and families that are part of the underserved population, P3 Education+ ventures into the local community having prepared a creative and unique artistic experience that is fine-tuned to meet the specific needs of each group,” Peterson said.
Custom tailored programming includes everything from workshops in acting, voice, dancing and improv to training in job interviews, team building and technical theatre skills. In addition, P3 Educates+ helps students develop social skills and confidence through various activities.
“The P3 Theatre family firmly believes that it is possible to make a difference in the world – one person at a time,” Peterson said.
