5th District Councilmember Paul Koretz won reelection for a third term in the March 5 elections, with just under 66 percent of the vote.
Koretz, who has served as the district’s councilmember since 2009, has been a long term supporter of the LGBTQ community, going back to the days he was a member of the West Hollywood City Council and West Hollywood mayor.
He was among the founders of the City of West Hollywood, He has participated in nearly every AIDS Walk in Los Angeles, and was the first elected official to take part in the California AIDS Ride from San Francisco to West Hollywood.
His legislative actions over the years have included leading the fight to ban discrimination against gays and lesbians in West Hollywood.
Koretz was also extremely vocal in his support for marriage equality for same sex couples and backing legislation prohibiting the denial of medical insurance or medical services to transgender people.
