West Hollywood Hosts Free Screening of ‘AIDS Diva’ Film Celebrating Activist Connie Norman

Documentary Chronicles the Life of the Transgender and AIDS Activist with a Panel Discussion

The City of West Hollywood will host a free community screening of the award-winning documentary AIDS Diva: The Legend of Connie Norman as part of its 40th Anniversary Cultural History Grant program, which celebrates the city’s four decades of cityhood.

The event will take place Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025, at the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Renberg Theater at the Village at Ed Gould Plaza, located at 1125 N. McCadden Place in Los Angeles. A reception will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the screening at 7 p.m.. Admission is free, but advance registration is encouraged at https://bit.ly/AIDSDiva-09-13-25.

Released in 2021, AIDS Diva: The Legend of Connie Norman has been featured at LGBTQ+ film festivals worldwide and at community events across the United States. The film chronicles the life and legacy of Connie Norman, a transgender and AIDS activist known as a fearless advocate and a leading voice with ACT UP/LA during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Norman, who dubbed herself the “AIDS Diva,” became a prominent spokesperson in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights and HIV/AIDS awareness in Los Angeles and West Hollywood.

Following the screening, a panel discussion will bring together several of Norman’s colleagues and allies to reflect on her impact. Scheduled panelists include director Dante Alencastre, Peter Cashman, Torie Osborn, and Robin Podolsky, with additional participants to be announced. The conversation will be moderated by transgender activist and artist Jazzmun Crayton.

The screening is one of several events organized this year to highlight West Hollywood’s 40-year history and ongoing role as a hub for activism, arts, and LGBTQ+ culture.
