‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Stars and Producers Celebrate Season 17 at West Hollywood FYC Pool Party

Cast Spotlights Queer Storytelling, ACLU Drag Defense Fund, and Emmy-Worthy Moments

Cast members and producers of RuPaul’s Drag Race gathered in West Hollywood on Friday for a vibrant Emmy® For Your Consideration (FYC) event celebrating the show’s 17th season and its impact on queer visibility and storytelling.

Held at the Skybar at the Mondrian Hotel, the rooftop pool party brought together Season 17 winner Onya Nurve alongside fellow queens Jewels Sparkles, Sam Star, Suzie Toot, Lana Ja’Rae, and Lexi Love. They were joined by Executive Producer Randy Barbato, Resident Judge and Co-Executive Producer Michelle Visage, and Guest Judge and choreographer Jamal Sims for a live panel discussion.

The conversation, moderated by actress, comedian, and RuPaul’s Drag Race superfan Leslie Jones, focused on the cultural relevance of drag and the role the long-running series continues to play in elevating LGBTQ+ voices, particularly during a time of heightened political scrutiny.

Michelle Visage, Co-Executive Producer and Judge, encouraged the crowd, “In this climate, we need to be louder. We need to be gayer than ever before.”

The panelists reflected on the challenges and triumphs of Season 17, with a spotlight on the emotional “Drag Baby Mamas” makeover episode. They discussed how personal narratives helped shape each queen’s journey and emphasized how Drag Race remains a vital platform for the next generation of queer artists.

Onya Nurve revealed, “Getting on RuPaul’s Drag Race was a dream of mine. Getting on this show is a testament to betting on yourself. I hope winning this show is a beacon of hope for everyone who looks like me. “

The event also acknowledged the ongoing fight for LGBTQ+ rights, with a shout-out to the ACLU’s Drag Defense Fund. The fund, launched in partnership with Drag Race, has surpassed $2.1 million in donations, supporting legal efforts against anti-LGBTQ+ legislation across the United States.

In true Drag Race fashion, the evening ended on a playful note with behind-the-scenes crew members taking turns in the “Badonka Dunk Tank,” a callback to the fan-favorite Season 17 segment.

Guests enjoyed themed festivities, including photo ops at the Drag Race “Confessional” booth, poolside appearances by the Pit Crew, and RuPaul quote installations placed throughout the venue. The event served not only as a celebration of the show’s latest season but also as a call to action in defense of drag and queer expression.
