Suspects Smashed Windows, Ripped off a Door, Then Fled
A driverless Waymo vehicle was vandalized early Saturday morning while stopped at a red light in Beverly Hills, the company confirmed. Videos taken on the scene showed one man standing on the roof of the white Jaguar, while others smashed the car’s windows and windshield and ripped the passenger side door off.
The incident occurred around 4 a.m. at the intersection of La Cienega Boulevard and 3rd Street near the Beverly Center, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Officers arrived to find the suspects had already fled, but a vandalism report was filed, the LAPD said.
Waymo, a self-driving ride-hailing service, condemned the vandalism in a statement to CBS News Los Angeles.
Waymo spokesperson, Julia Ilina said in a press statement, “While these sorts of events are rare, we take them extremely seriously and remain committed to improving road safety and mobility in the cities where we operate.”
