West Hollywood’s Iconically Spooky Halloween Carnaval Returns with Thousands Expected

Weho Announces Details for Sexy and Scary Night of Costumes, Entertainment, and Fun

West Hollywood’s legendary Halloween Carnaval will make its return on October 31, 2024, drawing thousands of costumed revelers to the city’s Rainbow District along Santa Monica Boulevard. This free event, open to the public, will run from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. along a one-mile stretch of Historic Route 66 between N. Doheny Drive and N. La Cienega Boulevard.

First held in 1987, the Halloween Carnaval has become a celebration of self-expression and diversity. Attendees can expect live music, food trucks, and a vast array of creative costumes. This year’s festivities will include a live DJ set on a stage at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and N. San Vicente Boulevard.

City officials are reminding attendees of important safety guidelines. Alcohol, weapons, and drones are prohibited, and revelers are encouraged to use clear plastic bags for personal items. Due to the large crowds, young children and pets are best left at home. The City urges attendees to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement, promoting the motto: “If You See Something, Say Something.”

In addition to the main event, local bars, restaurants, and entertainment venues will host smaller-scale Halloween celebrations throughout the weekend. The City has waived special event permit fees to support these businesses, which can apply for permits until October 21, 2024.

For transportation, West Hollywood’s PickUp and Cityline will offer free Halloween service to and from N. Sweetzer Avenue/Santa Monica Boulevard, within walking distance from the Halloween Carnaval. Cityline will run a Hollywood/Highland route from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. along with servicing all stops along Santa Monica Boulevard between N. Sweetzer Avenue and N. La Brea Avenue (with the last eastbound boarding at N. Sweetzer at 11 p.m.). The PickUp will run a local route from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. servicing all stops along Santa Monica Boulevard between N. Sweetzer Avenue and N. La Brea Avenue. Details about the Halloween Special Service and schedule will be posted at www.wehopickup.com.

The Sunset Strip’s Afterlife Transfer Trolley will provide a spooky ride along Sunset Boulevard on several dates, October 26, 27, 31, and November 1.  A full schedule will be available at www.thesunsetstrip.com/halloweentrolley. The Afterlife Transfer Trolley is organized by the Sunset Strip Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with the City of West Hollywood.
