Wright Sought to Clarify the Nature of the Arrest in a Social Media Post
Zekiah Wright, a candidate for the West Hollywood City Council and Labor and Employment litigator, was arrested and released with a citation, according to an emailed statement from Detective Brandon Zeff of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, West Hollywood Station. Wright faces charges of identity theft and perjury, with a court date set for Nov. 13, 2024.
In an Instagram post on Sept. 19, Wright addressed concerns from supporters and West Hollywood residents, clarifying that they was not “arrested” in the traditional sense. According to Wright, they were issued a citation at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Department and were not booked, handcuffed, or detained for an extended period. The candidate stated that the entire process took about 15 minutes. According to the LASD Inmate Information Center, the booking time on the arrest was 9:35 a.m. and the release time was 9:40 a.m.
Wright also mentioned they are waiting to hear whether the District Attorney will formally file charges. Despite the legal issues, the candidate expressed confidence in clearing their name, though Wright noted there is no timeline for resolution.
Wright assured supporters that they would remain transparent throughout the process, answer questions, and announced that they would continue hosting the weekly “Coffee With Z” event on Saturday, Sept. 21.
