West Hollywood Residents Urged to Support Fountain Avenue Protected Bike Lanes

City Council to Vote on $8.2m Funding for the Project; Public Input Crucial on Monday

Streets for All blog is urging West Hollywood residents are being called to show support for the addition of protected bike lanes along Fountain Avenue, a project that has seen little progress since the City Council approved it nearly two years ago. The City Council is scheduled to discuss the project during a meeting on Monday, Sept. 16, at 6 p.m. at West Hollywood Council Chambers, located at 625 N. San Vicente Blvd.

The project, known as the Fountain Avenue Streetscape Project, could move forward if the council votes to accept $8.2 million in funding from the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The funding is listed under agenda item E-1.

Advocates of the bike lanes are encouraging residents to attend the meeting and make public comments in support of the project, especially in light of expected opposition. In-person comments are considered the most effective, but those unable to attend can also submit comments via email or call in during the meeting.

Supporters are asking the City Council to accept the CARB funding and accelerate the project to improve safety on Fountain Avenue for cyclists and pedestrians.

How to Take Action:

  1. Attend in person: The most impactful way to show support is to attend the City Council meeting on Monday, Sept. 16, at 6 p.m. at West Hollywood Council Chambers. Residents can sign up to make public comments in support of Item E-1.
  2. Call in: Residents can call in by 5:50 p.m. on Monday to make a public comment via phone. To be added to the dial-in list, email the City Clerk before 12 p.m. on Monday. The meeting can be viewed remotely via WeHoTV’s Council webpage.

3. Email in advance: For those unable to attend or call in, emails of support can be sent to the City Council. Comments must be submitted before 12 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16. You can send the email through this link.
