Fuse Media Debuts Film Division with Documentary on Transgender MMA Fighter

Unfightable Follows the Inspiring Journey of Alana McLaughlin, U.S. Army Veteran

Latino-owned Fuse Media, known for its focus on inclusive entertainment, has announced its debut in the film industry with the ViX original documentary Unfightable’s theatrical release. Directed and produced by Emmy Award-winner Marc J. Perez (Severe Clear, Anytown USA) and produced by La Jaula Studios, Unfightable tells the remarkable story of Alana McLaughlin, a U.S. Army Special Forces Sergeant and transgender athlete who is fighting not only in the MMA ring but also for control over her own life and narrative.

The story that the documentary tells has become even more relevant with the recent vicious online harassment of the Olympic female athletes Algerian Imane Khelif and Li Yu-ting of Taiwan, who were accused of being men after winning in their bouts.

The documentary will premiere with a one-week theatrical run in New York starting September 13 at the Village East Theater, followed by another week in Los Angeles at Laemmle Noho 7. Tickets will be available soon. Following its theatrical release, Unfightable will premiere its exclusive world television in Spanish on ViX, the leading Spanish-language streaming service, and in English on Fuse in the coming months.

You can watch the trailer here:

“Alana McLaughlin’s story epitomizes Fuse Media’s mission to celebrate diversity and inclusion while affirming individuals’ true identities,” said Miguel Roggero, Chairman and CEO of Fuse Media. “We are proud to honor the trans community by bringing this important documentary to audiences across multiple platforms, including linear, streaming, FAST, and now, theatrical.”

Director Marc J. Perez expressed his connection to the project, saying, “Alana’s story was so incredibly moving that La Jaula Studios had to be the one to tell it to the world.”

Unfightable chronicles Alana McLaughlin’s journey as she navigates the challenges of being a transgender woman in the world of professional MMA, a sport known for its resistance to transgender athletes. The documentary explores her difficult upbringing, service in the U.S. Special Forces, transition, and discovery of a supportive community in Portland, Oregon. Having fought battles throughout her life, Alana aims to make her mark in professional fighting, with Unfightable shedding light on transgender athletes’ rights to compete professionally.
