Moms for Liberty Under Scrutiny: Registered Sex Offender Involved in Philadelphia Outreach Sparks Controversy

Conservative Group Faces Backlash For Hiring Registered Sex Offender

By Dolores Quintana

The conservative and anti-LGBTQ+ national conservative group that claims to be advocates for “parental rights”, faces scrutiny after it was revealed that Phillip Fisher Jr., a registered sex offender, played a role in their outreach efforts in the Philadelphia area.

The group is described as advocates against school curricula that mention LGBT rights, race and ethnicity, critical race theory, and discrimination. While they claim to be about protecting the rights of parents and by extension protecting children, working with a registered sex offender as part of their outreach team seems at odds with their alleged purpose.

Phillip Fisher Jr. coordinated faith-based outreach for a local Moms for Liberty chapter. However, Fisher is a registered sex offender in Illinois, with a 2012 felony conviction stemming from his guilty plea to aggravated sexual abuse of a 14-year-old boy as a 25-year-old man.

The plea was for one of a total of 12 counts that the Chicago Police Department was investigating in relation to Fisher. Despite the one guilty plea, Fisher insists that he was innocent and that the charges were part of a political action committee’s vendetta led by Lyndon LaRouche.

In response to the revelation, Moms for Liberty founders Tina Descovich and Tiffany Justice issued a statement to Newsweek, asserting, “We do not condone the actions of anyone who hurts children—ever.”

Fisher defended his involvement, stating that, as a “known and respected pastor throughout the city,” he facilitated connections between Moms for Liberty’s Philadelphia chapter and local religious organizations.

Additionally, Fisher volunteered at the Moms for Liberty summit in Philadelphia during the summer, featuring speeches by former President Donald Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.
