Long Beach Pride Co-Founder Bob Crow Remembered as an LGBTQ+ Community Beacon of Hope

Bob Crow, one of the original founders of Long Beach Pride Has Passed Away

By Dolores Quintana

Bob Crow, one of the three original founders of Long Beach Pride, sadly died on September 29. Along with co-founders Judi Doyle and Marilyn Barlow, the three met at Executive Suite for the first meeting of Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride, Inc. (LBLGP, Inc.) in 1983. The first Long Beach Pride Festival and Parade took place the next year.

Long Beach Pride’s social media accounts announced Crow’s death on Friday and said, in a post, “It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved founder, Bob Crow. Today, the skies may seem a bit grayer as we lost not only the founder of Long Beach Pride but also a beacon of strength and inspiration in the LGBTQ+ and Long Beach community.

Bob dedicated his life to fostering a sense of pride, community, and support for all, championing the cause of equality and love. His tireless efforts laid the foundations for Long Beach Pride, making it a symbol of hope and celebration for everyone it touches.

As we mourn the loss of a true advocate and friend, we also extend our heartfelt gratitude to each one of you who have joined hands with Long Beach Pride over the years. Your support has been instrumental, and it is through this collective strength that we will continue to honor Bob’s legacy.

In the words of Bob, who left us with countless wisdom and courage: “Some people are not going to like you, and some people never will, but you got to just keep on moving forward.” This favorite quote of his serves as a guiding light, reminding us all to persist with love and pride, even in the face of adversity.”

The video that accompanies this message states that people should check the group’s social media for news about Crow’s memorial that will be released in the coming days.
