Keeping Your Long Distance Relationship Spicy

So, you’ve found yourself in a long-distance relationship, and let’s face it – it’s so hard! You may know the ways to keep the intimacy in a long-term relationship, but what about when hundreds, even thousands of miles, separate you? While it may seem like it’s too tough to stick it out, the reality is, tons of couples do it, thrive in it, and eventually end up in the same city or home. When you find yourself feeling defeated by the distance or start sensing that your partner may be feeling that way, implement the following techniques and tips to keep things spicy and alive until your subsequent encounter.

Don’t Stop Romancing Them.

There are tons of ways to keep the romance flowing in your relationship even though you’re separated. Whether it’s ordering them flowers to be delivered to work or surprising them with a shipment of Initio Parfums, Ombre Leather, or another popular unisex fregrance — little tokens show them you’re thinking of them and want to remind them of that. Other ways to romance your partner are the same as if you were in the same town or lived together. Send flirty text messages and sexy selfies. Ask them on dates – sure, the dates may be virtual, but you’ll be carving out specific time to spend together on the phone, Facetime, Skype, or Zoom – pick your poison.

Sex Is Still Important

Sure, you may be miles and miles apart from each other, but healthy sex lives are part of a healthy relationship. Unless you’re waiting until marriage, and even then, the lines of what is okay sexually can get blurry. But, if you’re like an average couple, your relationship has likely gotten physical at some point, and you want to keep that spark alive. However, you guys like to engage in sexual connections while away from one another is okay; make sure you prioritize it and do it often. Also, circling back to “romancing” them with gifts – toys always make a fantastic present in an LDR.

Travel Together Often

Sometimes when you’re in a long-distance relationship, you can get stuck in the same types of relationship ruts that average couples living in the same city can. So, instead of always making your visits to one another’s towns and houses exclusively, why not make a habit out of traveling with one another to keep things spicy? Make it a point to meet halfway in fun cities between you. You can also plan out of the country trips together and meet up for the long flight in significant hub airports. This type of planning takes more effort than in the same town, but the payoff is enormous. Plus, you’ll be making memories that will last a lifetime when you put this kind of effort in! And lastly, wouldn’t a romantic getaway together be the perfect place for a proposal? And you two could finally start taking steps to be in the same place permanently!

Have An Endgame In Mind

Piggybacking on the proposal mentioned above, there should be a common endgame that the two of you envision. If you’re taking the time to put effort into a relationship that undoubtedly takes more work than a standard one, you want to know where it’s headed. Sure, this doesn’t need to be rushed into and decided off the bat, but you need to share a goal for the relationship. Don’t waste time, money, and energy if this is just a fling – you can get that locally! So, make sure you have a goal and plan in mind that you’re both working towards to keep you motivated through the tough times and missing one another.

Utilize Snail Mail

Remember when you were younger the excitement you had when you got an actual letter or postcard in the mail? Most of us still feel it today, and it’s just the practice has become so uncommon, unfortunately. So, keep things old-school and romantic by sending love letters, postcards, and care packages to your sweetheart through the mail. Not to mention, our postal service needs all the help it can get right now, so you’re supporting them too!

Long-distance relationships can be challenging, that is obvious, and there is truth in it. However, they can also be incredibly rewarding. There is something poetic about loving a person so much and being so attracted to them physically and spiritually that you are willing to go weeks or months without seeing them. You are falling in love with them, the human being, not just the sex or the fun nights out. LDR’s can prove to you that it’s what is inside that matters most and confirm that you’ve found your person. So, here’s to the two of you, making things work and eventually being together permanently. Cheers!
