Restrictions In WeHo And LA County As COVID Cases Surge

The City of West Hollywood is getting the word out that Los Angeles County has announced it will be issuing another stay-at-home order in addition to its latest order.

This first order restricts dining at restaurants, breweries, wineries, and bars as COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continue to increase significantly with the five-day average of new cases increasing to more than 4,000 cases.

According to LA County: To reduce the possibility for crowding and the potential for exposures in settings where people are not wearing their face coverings, restaurants, breweries, wineries, and bars will only be able to offer take-out, drive thru, and delivery services. In-person dining will not be allowed, at minimum, for three weeks, following taking effect.

Restrictions take effect on Wednesday, Nov. 25th, 2020 at 10 p.m. and will remain in effect for a minimum of three weeks. Wineries and breweries may continue their retail operations adhering to current protocols. Businesses in this sector have been notified via email by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

This latest restriction follows a State of California Limited Stay at Home Order, which became effective in counties (such as Los Angeles County) under Tier One (Purple) of California’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy on Saturday, Nov. 21st, 2020, at 10 p.m. and will last through Monday, Dec. 21st, 2020, at 5 a.m. and may be extended or revised as needed.

The Order requires that all gatherings with members of other households and all activities conducted outside the residence, lodging, or temporary accommodation with members of other households cease between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., except for those activities associated with the operation, maintenance, or usage of critical infrastructure or required by law.

The State of California has also issued a Travel Advisory urging Californians to stay home or in the region and to avoid non-essential travel to other states or countries and urges visitors entering California or returning home from travel outside California to self-quarantine to slow the spread of COVID-19.

The advisory recommends that individuals limit their interactions to their immediate households and urges people to only travel for essential duties, defined as travel for work and study, critical infrastructure support, economic services and supply chains, health, immediate medical care, and safety and security.

Thanksgiving and upcoming holidays have presented enormous challenges for Public Health officials, who are urging people to stay home and stay in their households. Public Health officials are concerned about the potential for an even higher rise in positive infections and hospitalizations in the weeks ahead as people gather for holiday celebrations, even as experts strongly encourage people to stay safe at home.

In response to surging COVID cases after the Thanksgiving holiday LA County has announced a state at home order. The three-week order takes effect Monday Nov. 30th, 2020 but it stops short of a full shutdown on non-essential businesses, allowing indoor retail to operate at 20% capacity. It comes as the county confirms 24 new deaths and 4,544 new cases of COVID-19. Nearly 2,000 people in the county are hospitalized.
