WeHo Makes Efforts to Help Its Businesses and Residents

With the Coronavirus pandemic wreaking havoc across the world and many businesses unfortunately succumbing to the lack of business. The City of West Hollywood is making every effort to respond to community needs during this difficult time and has issued an executive order to provide relief to businesses and residents experiencing uncertainty due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

On July 14th 2020, Paul Arevalo, the City of West Hollywood’s City Manager and Director of Emergency Services, issued an eighth Emergency Executive Order (2020-8) on Friday, July 10, 2020 Implementing Emergency Measures to Assist Local Businesses and Temporarily Suspend Enforcement of Specified Parking Requirements.

In terms of helping local businesses, the executive order states “The annual renewal fees paid to the City of West Hollywood for Regulatory Business Licenses and Outdoor Dining, Valet Meter, and Valet Sign Encroachment Permits for the calendar year of 2020 are deferred and will not be due until Thursday, October 1, 2020. These 12-month fees will be prorated and businesses will only pay for nine months of the annual renewal fees; and City businesses that paid their Regulatory Business License and Outdoor Dining, Valet Meter, and Valet Sign Encroachment Permit renewal fees between Wednesday, January 1, 2020 and Friday, July 10, 2020 will receive a three-month credit in the annual fee during the next annual billing cycle in calendar year 2021.”

In regards to helping the residents of West Hollywood, forty percent of whom identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, th executive order states “The City of West Hollywood will suspend enforcement of parking regulations for residential street sweeping and peak/rush-hour zone restrictions (7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on La Brea Avenue, Crescent Heights Boulevard, and Fountain Avenue) until Friday, July 31, 2020; and due to an increase in working at home, residents with valid resident, guest, or visitor parking permits may continue to park at nearby parking meters during residential street sweeping. Vehicles must have a permit displayed and may park up to 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after the posted hours for street sweeping at the address where the permit is registered. The ability of permit holders to park at meters for residential street sweeping will be in effect until Monday, August 31, 2020. The City encourages residents to move their vehicles to assist in keeping streets clean.”

The City of West Hollywood shares municipal borders with the City of Los Angeles. To avoid uncertainty and confusion associated with various local parking regulations in place during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic while some residents remain at home, the City of West Hollywood is implementing flexible temporary parking measures to coincide with those adopted by the City of Los Angeles. The City of West Hollywood may further suspend enforcement of parking regulations, as necessary, to maintain consistency with the City of Los Angeles.

The City of West Hollywood has declared a local emergency in response to the coronavirus pandemic. When in public, community members should maintain your space with social (physical) distancing of at least six feet, and cover that face to adhere to City requirements for the use of face coverings.

Public Health officials recommend cloth face coverings so that medical-grade and N95 masks may be prioritized in the supply chain for healthcare workers and first responders. Face coverings are not required for young children under two-years-old; children between two- and eight-years-old should only wear face coverings with adult supervision; and people with certain medical conditions are exempt from this requirement.

The City encourages residents to remain home as much as possible and limit close contact with others outside of their household. Additionally, people 65 years old or older and all people of any age with underlying health conditions should remain at home whenever possible; people in these categories should only leave their residences to seek medical care, exercise, or obtain food or other necessities.
