WeHo Leaders Denounce Federal Tactics and Escalating Crackdown
The City of West Hollywood has issued a firm statement condemning recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in Los Angeles and nearby municipalities, calling the raids “disruptive, discriminatory, and deeply destabilizing.”
In a message released to the public, city officials criticized the federal government’s enforcement tactics, stating that such actions target immigrant families, foster fear within communities, and undermine public trust in legal institutions and due process.
The city also denounced the federal government’s move to deploy 2,000 California National Guard troops, describing the decision, made under the direction of former President Donald Trump, as excessive and alarming.
“This unprecedented use of military force is not only unnecessary but dangerous,” the statement reads. “It sets a dangerous precedent and only serves to escalate tensions.”
City leaders emphasized that immigrant communities are foundational to the state’s identity and economic vitality, not threats to be policed. West Hollywood reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to being a safe and inclusive city for all people, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds, including immigrants and LGBTQ+ individuals.
“The City of West Hollywood will not stand by as intimidation replaces dignity, nor will we remain silent as families are torn apart.”
The city urged residents to access reliable legal resources and know their rights. West Hollywood pointed community members to the Los Angeles County Office of Immigrant Affairs, which hosts a “Know Your Rights” resource hub for immigrant individuals and service providers.
