Supervisor Solis Leads Recognition of Five Local Leaders and Organizations
Los Angeles County Chair Pro Tem and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis led a Pride Month recognition ceremony Tuesday during the Board of Supervisors meeting, celebrating five honorees for their contributions to advancing equity and inclusion for LGBTQ+ communities throughout the region.
The formal presentation, which followed a morning breakfast reception, spotlighted community resilience, visibility, and leadership amid ongoing threats to LGBTQ+ rights. In her remarks, Solis emphasized the County’s commitment to fostering safe and inclusive spaces while acknowledging the persistent challenges faced by queer and trans individuals, particularly those of color.
Solis honored four individuals and one organization for their advocacy and leadership:
- Emmanuel Estrada, Baldwin Park City Councilmember, for championing policies centered on equity and working-class families.
- Camila Camaleón, President of the San Gabriel Valley LGBTQ+ Center and Director of Policy at California Latinas for Reproductive Justice, for grassroots organizing that uplifts queer and trans communities of color.
- Hans Johnson, President of Progressive Victory and Vice Chair of the Los Angeles County Civilian Oversight Commission, for his decades of civil rights work and policy leadership.
- Julia Diamond, Vice President of The Music Center Arts, for spearheading efforts to make arts programming more inclusive and community-oriented.
- El Sereno Greengrocer, a community market co-founded by Patricia Torres and Erika Crenshaw, recognized for advancing food justice and mutual aid initiatives in East L.A.
