Text, Park, and Go: WeHo Adds Mobile Meter Payment Feature
The City of West Hollywood has introduced a new “Text to Pay” feature that allows drivers to pay for parking meters using a mobile phone, offering a faster, more convenient, and touch-free alternative to coins or credit cards.
The system, which is now available citywide, enables users to initiate parking payments via SMS by texting the word “PAY” to 77447, eliminating the need to interact physically with parking meters.
“Text to Pay” is intended to streamline the parking process and improve accessibility for drivers, especially in a post-pandemic environment where contactless transactions have become more common.
Each West Hollywood parking meter is labeled with instructions and a unique code, and is easily identifiable by its teal color and a digital display that reads “West Hollywood,”—distinguishing them from meters in neighboring cities such as Beverly Hills or Los Angeles.
How It Works:
- Text “PAY” to 77447 using a mobile phone.
- Enter the meter number, which is printed on the curb-facing side of the meter.
- Receive a secure payment link via SMS.
- Follow the link to input license plate details, choose the desired time, and complete the transaction. A $0.35 service fee applies.
Once a parking session is nearing expiration, the system sends a 10-minute warning via text with an option to extend the session using the same secure link.
City officials warn residents to be cautious of parking scams, including fraudulent QR codes. West Hollywood’s official “Text to Pay” system does not use QR codes and only operates through the SMS short code 77447 and the website ips-text2pay.com.
