Political Theater Meets Brunch Crowd in Weekend WeHo Showdown
Brandon Straka’s “American Restoration Tour” protest and rally was held in West Hollywood and Beverly Hills in an attempt to convince liberal residents to register as Republicans and embrace MAGA viewpoints, however, there was more going during the confrontation between the protesters and counterprotesters that day.
On Sunday, April 27, the “Walk Away” march was met by a spirited counterprotest. Conservative figures such as Matt Gaetz, who had to withdraw from consideration to become the Trump administration’s Attorney General due to the scandal of allegations of child sex trafficking, drug abuse, and paying for sex from women, including a minor, gave a speech.
It has recently come to light that a family member of Straka was in the crowd taking photos of counterprotesters faces. Journalist Jonathan Green posted video from the protest on social media.
Straka’s father, Dan Straka, was seen photographing counterprotesters in the video. Several demonstrators had his cell phone placed very close to their faces and were photographed despite indicating that they did not wish to be photographed.
Brandon Straka, who was pardoned by former President Donald Trump following his conviction on a misdemeanor charge related to the January 6 Capitol riot, has previously denied any wrongdoing in connection with the events in Washington, D.C.
The West Hollywood demonstration played out in contrast to the surrounding neighborhood’s weekend routine. Along Santa Monica Boulevard, locals continued brunching on patios and enjoying drag performances, even as political chants filled the air.
