LGBT Center Hosts Free Night Market Spotlighting Queer AANHPI Creatives on May 17

Free Cultural Event Features Food Vendors, Tea Ceremonies, Drag Shows

The Los Angeles LGBT Center, in partnership with Mayumi Market, will celebrate the vibrant identities of queer Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities during Golden Hour: A Queer AANHPI Night Market on Friday, May 17.

Running from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Center’s Village at Ed Gould Plaza in Hollywood, the free, all-ages event transforms the campus into an immersive cultural experience, spotlighting AANHPI creators, performers, and traditions. Curated specifically for and by queer AANHPI communities, Golden Hour aims to foster connection, creativity, and joy.

Guests will encounter a dynamic mix of food and retail vendors hand-selected by Mayumi Market, as well as cultural activations and entertainment. Highlights include:

  • A traditional tea ceremony and tasting led by Standstill Tea
  • A karaoke lounge and mahjong tutorials hosted by East Never Loses
  • A nostalgic glamour-style portrait studio by Syd Studios
  • DJ sets from Ethical Drvgs and MINZ
  • Stage programming hosted by Andre Lawes Menchavez

The evening’s live performances, curated by Queer LiberAsian, feature a range of talent including:

  • House of Menchavez, dance troupe
  • Ancestral Vision Movement, a Filipinx American dance company
  • Drag artists Big Mama Tama, Mx. Sam Paguita, and Prince

“Golden Hour is a celebration of heritage, artistry, and identity,” organizers said in a statement. “Whether you’re here to shop, sing, dance, or just be present, this space is for you.”

General admission is free with RSVP and open to all ages. A limited number of VIP Early Access tickets are available for $15 and include:

  • Entry at 5:00 p.m., one hour before general admission
  • A complimentary portrait session (valued at $25)
  • Two additional drink vouchers for guests 21+
  • A custom Golden Hour tote bag filled with curated snacks and products from AANHPI brands such as KACE, Pono Potions, and Mohala Eyewear

Golden Hour is presented by Gilead Sciences and supported by Casamigos Tequila as the Official Tequila sponsor.
