West Hollywood Lights Up for Lesbian and Queer Women’s Visibility Week

Lesbian and Queer Women Honored With Community Events, Film Screenings

The City of West Hollywood will recognize April 21 through April 27, 2025, as Lesbian and Queer Women’s Visibility Week, marking the occasion with symbolic displays and a community film festival.

In honor of the weeklong celebration, the city will raise the Lesbian Pride Flag along medians on Santa Monica Boulevard and at West Hollywood City Hall. Additionally, the signature globe lanterns above Santa Monica Boulevard will be illuminated in shades of pink, orange, and white to match the colors of the LGBTQ+ Pride Flag.

The celebration will culminate on Sunday, April 27, with a WeHo Mini Film Fest presented by the L-Project, a nonprofit dedicated to elevating the voices of lesbian and queer women and non-binary individuals through media. The film screenings will be held at West Hollywood’s Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., with films beginning at 1 p.m. and a short intermission scheduled midway through the program.

Admission to the film festival is by a suggested donation of $10, although no one will be turned away due to a lack of funds. Full event details and ticket links are available at www.thelproject.org.

Lesbian Visibility Week is observed across the United States and Europe to raise awareness and promote the visibility of lesbian identities and issues. West Hollywood has observed Lesbian Visibility Day or Week in various forms since the 1990s, traditionally hosting programming that ranges from educational discussions to entertainment and community engagement activities. While originally observed in July, recent celebrations have taken place in April in alignment with advocacy organizations nationwide.

West Hollywood has long positioned itself at the forefront of LGBTQ rights and visibility. Since its incorporation in 1984, the city has championed inclusive public policy and advocacy efforts. More than 40 percent of West Hollywood’s population identifies as LGBTQ, and four out of the five members of the City Council are openly LGBTQ.
