Man Accused of Being Under the Influence in Fatal West Hollywood Crash
The Lake County Medical Examiner has confirmed that 33-year-old Garrett Bruno was found dead in a home in Mount Dora, Florida, on Tuesday night. Authorities are awaiting toxicology results to determine the cause of death, according to KNX News.
Bruno had been out on bail at the time of his death after being charged with second-degree murder in connection with an October 2024 crash in West Hollywood that killed 83-year-old Esther Abouab and seriously injured her husband, Joe.
The fatal crash occurred near Fountain and Spalding Avenues when Bruno, driving a Ford Explorer, allegedly ran a red light at high speed in a 25 mph zone and T-boned a Ford Expedition carrying Abouab and her husband.
Abouab, the mother of Hollywood restaurateur Greg Morris, died from blunt force trauma. Her husband sustained serious injuries but survived.
A toxicology report later revealed that Bruno had ketamine and GHB in his system at the time of the crash. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged him with second-degree murder and reckless driving.
Bruno’s body was discovered at his parents’ home in Mount Dora, where he had been staying. A spokesperson for local authorities confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
As officials await toxicology results, the case remains open.
