Former Beverly Hills Mansion of Hollywood’s Most Private Star Now for Rent for $45K

Iconic Estate in Beverly Crest Is Now Available for Purchase and Lease

Old Hollywood’s most mysterious star’s home is back on the market — and now it’s also available to rent — in an exclusive Beverly Crest neighborhood listing, according to Mansion Global.

Greta Garbo’s 4,700-square-foot estate is on sale for about $7.2 million, a significant reduction from the original asking price of $12 million set in June 2022 by a different brokerage. The property is also offered fully furnished for rent at $45,000 a month, a move aimed at attracting tenants amid a surge in lease requests following recent wildfires that destroyed more than 12,000 structures in the Los Angeles area.

Listing agent Susan Smith of Carolwood Estates said the sellers, who have since moved out, are eager to offload the property. Records indicate the current owners purchased the home in 2006 for $7.45 million through a limited liability company.

“It’s a very good buy right now, especially for someone with a lot of family members,” Smith said.

Built in 1937, the home was originally a one-story structure when Garbo resided there. An expansion by interior designer Nicole Sassaman — completed shortly before the current owners’ purchase — added a second floor, boosting the living space to 4,700 square feet. A fresh coat of white paint on the exterior gives the nearly 90-year-old home a more modern look.

While the property is only a third of an acre, it makes the most of the space with a pool and hot tub on the backyard lawn. From there, a staircase leads down to a deck equipped with a barbecue and a bar, and in the style of the actress who liked to keep her privacy, the area is shielded from prying eyes by a stand of trees.
