Carnage for Christmas: Queer Holiday Horror Film Now Streaming on Shudder

Alice Maio Mackay’s Latest Slasher Blends Camp and Holiday Terror

Dark Star Pictures has announced the release of Alice Maio Mackay’s queer holiday horror film Carnage for Christmas, now available on Digital, On Demand, and streaming on Shudder.

Carnage for Christmas follows trans-true-crime podcaster Lola as she returns to her conservative hometown for Christmas. It’s her first visit since fleeing years earlier and transitioning, and she braces for the town’s reaction. However, her homecoming quickly takes a dark turn when a masked killer begins a bloody spree, seemingly connected to the town’s urban legend of a vengeful murderer known as The Toymaker.

You can watch the Red Band trailer here:

Directed by 20-year-old Mackay, a trailblazing trans filmmaker, the film blends holiday horror with campy thrills. Fellow genre artist Vera Drew (The People’s Joker) served as editor and visual effects artist. The cast includes Jeremy Moineau, Dominique Booth, Zarif, Olivia Deeble, Joe Romeo, and Betsey Brown.

Mackay’s career continues to gain momentum with Carnage for Christmas, marking her fifth feature film. The movie has already earned praise on the festival circuit, wowing audiences at the Fantasia Film Festival, Frameline, Inside Out, and FrightFest.

In addition to Carnage for Christmas, Mackay’s T-Blockers and Satranic Panic are also available on Shudder. T-Blockers tells the story of a young filmmaker fighting an ancient parasite that preys on the fearful, while Satranic Panic follows two grieving friends hunting down a demonic cult responsible for a hate-fueled murder.

Shudder is a premium horror streaming service that offers a seven-day trial period. You can check out Alice Maio Mackay’s films and Shudder’s impressive list of horror titles here. Horror at home for the holidays is always a treat.
