An Evening of Entertainment, History, Celebration at the Pacific Design Center.
The City of West Hollywood invites the community to commemorate its 40th anniversary of Cityhood with a celebratory event on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024, at the Pacific Design Center’s Silver Screen Theater, 8687 Melrose Ave.
The event, titled “West Hollywood Day,” will be hosted by comedian Bruce Vilanch and will include live entertainment, guest speakers, light refreshments, and a formal program. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the program scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
City officials, staff, and community members will join together to reflect on West Hollywood’s vibrant culture and history, including the challenges it has faced and the trailblazing initiatives it has championed. West Hollywood was officially incorporated as an independent city on Nov. 29, 1984, following a grassroots movement led by an unlikely coalition of LGBTQ activists, seniors, and renters. These groups united to create a progressive city focused on tenant protection and social equity.
Over the past four decades, West Hollywood has become a model for municipalities nationwide, championing LGBTQ rights, women’s rights, animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and affordable housing. The city is also recognized for its leadership in HIV/AIDS advocacy, aging-in-place programs, and community arts initiatives.
