Drag Race Stars Salina EsTitties and Kandy Muse Headline the Event Benefiting Boyle Heights’ MI Centro
The Los Angeles LGBT Center will host its second annual Queerceañera on Saturday, October 5, from 6:00 to 10:30 p.m., offering a vibrant and inclusive reimagining of the traditional quinceañera. The event, which celebrates LA’s queer Latinx community, promises to be even bigger than its inaugural 2023 debut. RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Salina EsTitties will serve as the Madrina (godmother) for the evening, while fellow Drag Race star Kandy Muse will be honored.
The event will take place on Saturday, October 5 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Los Angeles LGBT Center at The Village at Ed Gould Plaza at 1125 N. McCadden Place.
Queerceañera, often called “Queerce,” blends the cultural significance of a quinceañera with a modern twist, breaking traditional gender norms and fostering inclusivity. The event also serves as a fundraiser for Mi Centro, a Boyle Heights-based sanctuary for Latinx LGBTQ+ individuals, created through a partnership between the Los Angeles LGBT Center and the Latino Equality Alliance.
“I’m a gay, Afro-Latino performance artist from the South Bronx—baby, there’s no part of me that isn’t proud of where I come from and where I am going,” said honoree Kandy Muse. “Los Angeles is now my second home, and I’m honored to accept this year’s Queerceañera title and share my story, dreams, and love with mi gente.”
The evening will include a heartwarming stage program in the Renberg Theatre, where guests will witness performances and enjoy traditional quinceañera elements, such as tiaras, gowns, and dramatic presentations—all with a Hollywood flair. Attendees will also be treated to an editorial portrait studio, a lively dance floor, and complimentary Latin-inspired cuisine. Angel City Football Club is one of the major sponsors for the event.
“Queerceañera is a vibrant depiction of LA’s diverse experiences, anchored by cultural tastemakers pushing the boundaries of contemporary LGBTQ+ Latinidad,” said Catherina Dávila, Head of Community and Marketing for Angel City Football Club.
The evening will close with a post-program cocktail hour and a special “court” dance with LA’s nightlife favorite Queerchata. Free food vouchers will be available for the first 100 guests, and all ages are welcome to attend, with guests 21+ receiving wristbands at the door.
