City of West Hollywood to Celebrate Bi+ Visibility Week in September

Week-Long Events To Honor and Raise Awareness of Community

West Hollywood will observe Bi+ Visibility Week from Monday, Sept. 16, through Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, to raise awareness and support for the bisexual+ community. The city plans a series of recognitions to highlight the community’s contributions and issues.

On Sept. 16, West Hollywood will light the street lanterns along Santa Monica Boulevard in pink, purple, and blue, the colors of the Bisexual+ Pride flag. West Hollywood City Hall, located at 8300 Santa Monica Blvd., will also be illuminated in these colors to honor the community.

In addition, Bisexual+ Pride flags will be flown across the city. The flags will be displayed on medians, atop City Hall, and at Plummer Park, located at 7377 Santa Monica Blvd.

The week’s events will culminate in a free outdoor celebration at Plummer Park’s Vista Lawn on Sunday, Sept. 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature a DJ set by Michael Ian, a performance by drag queen Acacia Forgot, free lawn games, and complimentary Yoga and Zumba classes. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic items, blankets, yoga mats, and water bottles.

Several community organizations, including AmBi, LA Bi+ Task Force, Stacked Deck Press, and The Translatin@ Coalition, will have booths offering resources and information. The Los Angeles County Public Health Department, along with STICKITIN, will provide free flu and Mpox vaccinations on-site.

Since its incorporation in 1984, West Hollywood has been a leading advocate for LGBTQ rights. More than 40% of the city’s residents identify as LGBTQ, and the city is renowned for its progressive policies on equality and inclusiveness. The City Council includes three openly gay or lesbian members.
