West Hollywood and Other Hollywood Streets Go Car-Free for CicLAvia on August 18

Thousands Expected to Walk, Bike, and Roll Through the Hollywoods All Day

CicLAvia is set to transform Hollywood into a car-free haven on Sunday, August 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will span 6.6 miles, connecting East Hollywood, Hollywood, and West Hollywood. Participants are invited to explore these neighborhoods on foot, bike, or any other people-powered mode of transport.

The route will cover iconic streets, including Hollywood Boulevard, Highland Avenue, and Santa Monica Boulevard. CicLAvia’s 54th event offers Angelenos and visitors alike a chance to rediscover these areas without the usual hustle of traffic. The streets will become temporary parks filled with activities, street games, local businesses, and art and cultural activations suitable for all ages.

Five activity hubs along the route—West Hollywood Hub, Plummer Park Hub, Walk of Fame Hub, Hollywood Boulevard Hub, and East Hollywood Hub—will provide restrooms, water stations, bike repair services, and family-friendly entertainment. Free pedicab rides will also be available between hubs.

Romel Pascual, Executive Director of CicLAvia, highlighted the unique experience this event offers: “CicLAvia Sundays allow locals and tourists to enjoy familiar iconic areas in a new light—free from cars and traffic, giving everyone the freedom to explore at their own pace.”

CicLAvia, inspired by Bogotá’s weekly ciclovía, has been creating car-free streets in Los Angeles since 2010. The initiative promotes greener living, healthier lifestyles, and stronger community connections. Over the years, CicLAvia has welcomed more than 2 million participants across 311 miles of city streets.

Participants are encouraged to use people-powered mobility, such as walking, biking, or skating. Electric scooters, skateboards, and other motorized vehicles are not permitted, except for certain types of e-bikes and motorized wheelchairs.

The event marks one of several planned for 2024, with future dates including CicLAmini in Lincoln Heights on September 15, CicLAvia—Heart of LA on October 13, and CicLAvia—The Valley on December 8.

CicLAvia is free and open to all. Visit the CicLAvia Meet the Hollywoods 2024 website for more information on safety, participation guidelines, and upcoming events.
