Palmer Candy Company Recalls “White Coated Confectionary Items” Over Salmonella Concerns

Products Distributed in California Stores Pose Potential Health Risk

Palmer Candy Company has issued a voluntary recall of its “White Coated Confectionary Items” due to potential Salmonella contamination, the company announced Tuesday via a press release.

Salmonella, a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems, was found in the affected products. Symptoms of Salmonella infection may include fever, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In severe cases, Salmonella can lead to bloodstream infections, arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.

The recalled confectionary items were distributed nationwide in retail stores and wholesale, including major retailers such as Walmart, HyVee, Target, and Dollar General. Distribution also extended to various states, including California.

The products are packaged in various retail formats such as bags, pouches, and tubs. As of now, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall.

Palmer Candy Company initiated the recall after being informed by its liquid coating supplier of the potential contamination with Salmonella from an ingredient that may have originated from one of their suppliers.

Production of the affected products has been halted while the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the company investigate to identify the source of the issue.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled White coated confectionary items are advised to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. For inquiries, consumers can contact Palmer Candy Company at 1-800-831-0828, Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm.
