Los Angeles Police Department Reveals Identity of Victim Found in Stolen U-Haul Truck in West Adams

Body Found in Rental Vehicle Was Shot in the Head, LAPD Seeks Information

Detectives from the West Bureau Homicide Division of the Los Angeles Police Department are seeking the public’s help in identifying the individual or individuals responsible for the murder of a man whose body was discovered in the rear of a moving vehicle rental company.

The body was discovered on April 18 at approximately 10:53 a.m., when officers from the Wilshire division responded to reports of a death investigation in the 2400 block of Redondo Boulevard. The call originated from concerned local residents who had alerted a moving vehicle rental company about an abandoned vehicle obstructing traffic at Apple Street and Redondo Boulevard.

Upon arrival, an employee of the rental company proceeded to the scene to address the abandoned vehicle. Upon opening the rear cargo space, the employee made a grisly discovery — a tarp concealing what appeared to be a human body. Detecting a strong odor of decomposition, the employee promptly notified law enforcement.

Subsequent investigation by officers confirmed the presence of a deceased individual wrapped tightly beneath the tarp, indicating a possible homicide. Detectives from the West Bureau Homicide division were summoned to the scene, where it was determined that the victim had succumbed to an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The victim was identified as Henry Jernigan, a 50-year-old Black male.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding this incident to contact West Bureau Homicide detectives at 213-382-9470. For calls outside of business hours or during weekends, individuals are encouraged to reach out to 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (877-527-3247).

Those who wish to provide information anonymously can contact the LA Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477) or visit www.lacrimestoppers.org. Additionally, tipsters may utilize the “P-3 Tips” mobile application, selecting the LA Regional Crime Stoppers as their designated program.
