Alberto Vasquez Found with Cracked Skull, Family Pushes for Arrest
Alberto Vasquez, a hairstylist, was viciously attacked in West Hollywood on April 5 and found with a cracked skull and bleeding in the parking lot of a bar in the city. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transported Vasquez to a hospital the following morning, where he has remained in critical condition for the last two weeks, according to his family. They said, “We are relieved that he is expected to survive, but he will need multiple surgeries, has possible brain damage, and has a long road ahead to recovery.”
Vasquez’s family pushed for an arrest and release of the security footage from the local bar Heart Weho, where the assault was believed to have taken place. They set up an Instagram account Justice For Albert to demand action in the case. The account stated in a post on March 18, “We continue to work so that all responsible parties are held accountable, and we will continue to support Albert on his long road to recovery, but yes, this is a positive step forward. Thanks to Heart for sharing video footage ten days after reviewing it internally and sitting on it. We look forward to seeing ALL footage soon.”
A GoFundMe has been established to help defray the costs of his medical bills and recovery.
A press release from the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Department states, “On Friday, April 05, 2024, at approximately 10:40 p.m., the victim attempted to enter a nightclub in West Hollywood. The suspect, who was working as a security guard, did not allow the victim entry due to the victim not having proper identification. Both the suspect and the victim engaged in a verbal and physical altercation, in which the suspect punched the victim once in the face. The victim fell to the ground and was transported to a nearby hospital.
The suspect was identified and arrested for battery causing great bodily injury. Anyone with questions or information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s West Hollywood Station Detective Lombera at (310)
358-4028.”
The bar Heart Weho issued this statement on April 15, “Heart WeHo remains deeply committed to the safety and well-being of our community. We are aware of the incident that occurred on April 5th and have been actively collaborating with the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Department to assist in their investigation since the beginning. We have provided the authorities with unrestricted access to our security footage. We urge anyone with additional information pertaining to this incident to come forward and assist the West Hollywood Department in their efforts to ensure the safety and security of our neighborhood.”
