Neighbor Was Shocked By Man Entering Her Apartment Without Permission
Todd Michael Schultz, the partner of author Bret Easton Ellis for the past 14 years, has been arrested and charged with trespassing at the building where the pair live in a condominium, according to authorities and as reported by People Magazine.
Schultz, 37, was apprehended on Tuesday at the residence he shares with the 59-year-old novelist, known for works such as “American Psycho” and “Less Than Zero,” as confirmed by law enforcement.
In a text message to The New York Times, Ellis explained that Schultz is dealing with “serious mental health issues exacerbated by drugs.” Ellis clarified that Schultz’s episode was nonviolent but attributed to a psychotic break. He emphasized that Schultz did not intend any harm; rather, he mistakenly entered an open apartment, thinking it was the condo he lives in.
During the incident, the woman who lives in the condominium called 911, reporting that a man had entered her home and was “ransacking her things,” as per The New York Times. The resident also informed building management that the man did not respond to her when she requested that he leave the apartment.
Following the 911 call, building representatives intervened and detained the man, later identified as Schultz. After these events, multiple police cars arrived at the West Hollywood building. An anonymous eyewitness reported seeing Ellis pacing on the sidewalk, engaged in a phone conversation, and appearing distressed.
