Human Rights Speakers Series Presents a Touching Documentary on Fatherhood, Brotherhood, and Unconditional Love

Netflix Partners with the City of West Hollywood for Exclusive Screening of ‘The Dads’

In partnership with Netflix, the City of West Hollywood invites you to a special screening of the documentary film “The Dads.” This event, part of the Human Rights Speakers Series, will feature a compelling panel discussion with director Luchina Fisher and participants from the film.

  • Date: Thursday, December 7, 2023
  • Time: Doors open at 6:30 p.m., Opening remarks at 7 p.m.
  • Location: City of West Hollywood’s Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room, 625 North San Vicente Boulevard, adjacent to the West Hollywood Library.
  • RSVP: The event is free, but seating is limited. RSVP at http://go.weho.org/hrss.

The press release states that “The Dads” is a short documentary executive produced by Dwyane Wade. In this gentle meditation on fatherhood, brotherhood, and manhood, five fathers of trans children join Dennis Shepard – the father of slain gay college student Matthew Shepard – for a weekend fishing trip in rural Oklahoma. As the men cast their lines into the river, they find common ground across racial, geographical, and generational lines: their unconditional love for their children.”

The City of West Hollywood’s Human Rights Speakers Series fosters inclusive discussions on global, national, and local human rights issues. Reflecting the City’s commitment to human rights and the core value of Respect and Support for People, the series brings together diverse communities in a supportive environment.
