Project Proposed By Former Beverly Hills Planning Commission Chair
By Dolores Quintana
It’s not quite the Las Vegas Orb, that huge sphere that has fascinated the public on social media, but the proposal is for a more modest orb-shaped landmark in the works for the West Hollywood Sunset Strip as reported by Urbanize Los Angeles. Farshid Joe Shooshani, a former chair of the Beverly Hills Planning Commission, is the developer behind this proposed project in West Hollywood called “The Sphere on Sunset.”
Shooshani’s project, under the entity Sunset View Plaza, has formally submitted plans for the development. Property records indicate that the Shooshani family has held ownership of the 8410 Sunset Boulevard site since the 1980s. To make room for this new development, the project would necessitate the removal of a local newsstand.
The proposed location is in proximity to four historic buildings within the district:
- 8439 Sunset Blvd. – Hacienda Arms Apartments
- 8433 Sunset Blvd. – The Comedy Store
- 8351 Sunset Blvd. – Carney’s Restaurant
- 8458 Sunset Blvd. – Sunset Tower
The project is being designed by Saee Studio and was scheduled to be reviewed by the West Hollywood Planning Commission’s Design Review Subcommittee but the meeting was canceled. The three-person Design Review Subcommittee and Sunset Arts & Advertising Subcommittee of West Hollywood were also scheduled to review the project on the same day but a decision has not been released.
