West Hollywood Hosts ShopQueer.co and wayOUT’s Empowering Pop-Up Book Fair

Event Will Take Place In Plummer Park On August 4, 11, and 12

By Dolores Quintana

West Hollywood is thrilled to invite community members to attend the upcoming pop-up book fair events organized by ShopQueer.co and wayOUT. Taking place at Plummer Park’s south parking lot, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard, these events will be held in August 2023.

In response to the concerning rise in anti-LGBTQ legislation, drag performer Adam Powell and Dr. Eric Cervini, co-founders of ShopQueer.co, partnered with wayOUT, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering LGBTQ youth through various programs and opportunities. Together, they created the inspiring Rainbow Book Bus, a mobile platform with a mission to uplift LGBTQ writers and authors and utilize literature as a transformative tool to educate and enlighten audiences nationwide.

West Hollywood has been chosen as one of the inaugural stops on the Rainbow Book Bus’s national tour, making it an exceptional opportunity for book enthusiasts and the LGBTQ community to engage with a diverse range of literature and show support for LGBTQ voices in the literary world.

Mark your calendars for the following pop-up book fair events at Plummer Park:

  • Friday, August 4, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday, August 11, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 12, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The proceeds generated through these events will significantly contribute to supporting wayOUT’s network of LGBTQ centers. These centers offer vital resources to queer communities, including personal and group therapy sessions, housing services, work programs, gender-affirming services, and HIV testing and medication.

ShopQueer.co, an independent bookshop based in Los Angeles, is passionately dedicated to sharing, circulating, and amplifying the voices and stories of LGBTQ writers and authors. Their mission is to bring queer content and literature to a global audience and provide a prominent platform for LGBTQ authors. Notably, ShopQueer.co splits all profits with the authors, creating a fair and empowering partnership. Since its inception in October 2022, ShopQueer.co has successfully sold nearly 10,000 books, significantly promoting LGBTQ voices.

As a nonprofit organization, wayOUT is committed to empowering local organizations and entrepreneurs by advancing programs and initiatives that support LGBTQ youth throughout the country. With five local chapters and over $1 million contributed to support at-need LGBTQ youth centers on a national level, wayOUT has been a beacon of support and advocacy.
