The World’s First LGBTQ+ Mariachi Band Performs During Long Beach Pride Weekend at Hotel Maya

Following the 39th Annual Long Beach Pride Parade on Sunday, July 10, Hotel Maya will present “Mariachi Arcoiris de Los Angeles,” the world’s first LGBTQ+ mariachi band during its Pride brunch at the famous, seaside restaurant Fuego from 12-3 p.m.

This unique ensemble was created as a safe haven for mariachi musicians who identify as LGBTQ+ to come together and perform traditional Mexican regional music in response to a “machista” and at times, discriminating subculture of the mariachi world.

“In tradition with our Mayan culture and Latin American programs, we look forward to adding the vibrancy and joyful music of mariachis to the flavor of Fuego’s Sunday brunch,” said Greg Guthrie, General Manager at Hotel Maya – a Doubletree by Hilton. “We are celebrating Pride and providing a unique musical experience for our guests and locals while sipping on incredible margaritas, enjoying the great weather and listening to marvelous mariachi music all at the water’s edge.”

Mariachi Arcoiris de Los Angeles is part of Hotel Maya’s ongoing Latin entertainment series of “Maya-Achis,” a quarterly mariachi brunch at the hotel’s famous, waterfront restaurant Fuego which overlooks the Pacific Ocean, the Long Beach skyline and the Queen Mary.

Long Beach has been named the nation’s #4 destination to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride by Orbitz. Fuego at Hotel Maya is a long time supporter of the LGBTQ+ community in Long Beach and Mariachi Arcoiris de Los Angeles.

Fuego, the modern, Latin infused indoor-outdoor restaurant, and lounge, offers a unique seaside setting featuring 13-foot-tall glass walls that fully retract with seating on the patio area. Fuego restaurant is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.  For reservations, please call 562-481-3910 or visit https://www.hotelmayalongbeach.com/fuego-restaurant or https://www.opentable.com/fuego-maya-hotel.

Hotel Maya – a DoubleTree by Hilton is located at 700 Queensway Drive, Long Beach, CA 90802.
