DTLA Proud To Premiere New Documentary

DTLA PROUD announced that it will premier a new documentary about the community it serves later this Fall. The organization, which was conceived by prominent members and allies of Downtown Los Angeles’ burgeoning LGBTQ+ community, planned to celebrate its fifth year hosting its DTLA Proud festival this weekend.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, DTLA PROUD has had to cancel its annual celebration in Pershing Square. In lieu of its festival–which was slated to raise essential funds for the coming year–the non-profit will showcase a documentary to celebrate and inspire its community during this time of uncertainty and challenge. The film will highlight DTLA PROUD’s mission and work, featuring voices from the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.

The documentary is expected to reach upwards of 45,000+ past attendees and supporters, and premiere alongside an online fundraiser to raise awareness and needed funds for the organization’s mission and the DTLA Proud Community Center Initiative.

Oliver Alpuche, DTLA PROUD Founder and President said, “DTLA PROUD started from a simple idea to become the largest LGBTQ+ celebration Downtown Los Angeles history. The COVID-19 pandemic challenged us to sit back and re-examine the true meaning of Pride without physical events. Coupled with the historic uprising against racial injustice and discrimination, this film aims to capture a moment in time when despite these common struggles, the breadth and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community is becoming more connected and united than ever before. This will be a story of evolution, growth and what it means to stay proud as we approach the dawn of a new era in our collective queer experience.”

DTLA Proud is a non-profit organization that strengthens and empowers the local LGBTQ+ & ally community in Downtown Los Angeles through visibility, volunteerism, partnerships and events. Founded by a grassroots group of local residents, business owners, community leaders and nightlife promoters, we were born from the idea that together we could create an all-inclusive community that represents the diverse LGBTQ+ population that lives, works and plays in the thriving heart of the city of Los Angeles.
