Pride L.A. Internship Applications Now Accepted for Spring 2019 Semester!

Intern with one of the largest local media companies on Westside and make your voice heard for the LGBTQ+ community!

Mirror Media Group is the largest local media company serving the West Los Angeles communities, comprising of six publications: Palisades News, Santa Monica Mirror, The Pride L.A.(LGBT+), Yo! Venice, Brentwood News and Century City-Westwood News.

The Pride L.A. delivers 20,000 copies door-to-door throughout West Hollywood on a bi-weekly basis, and has dozens of street boxes/racks at LGBT centers, doctors offices and care centers, cafes, restaurants, hotels and retail businesses in West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Venice, Downtown Los Angeles, UCLA area, Long Beach, San Diego and Palm Springs.

The ideal candidate for the position would have a keen sense of news, able to adhere to strict deadlines and working knowledge of AP style.  An intern would be assigned a beat, pitch and write stories and be published in  print roughly every other week as well as sporadically online. The intern would immerse himself/herself in the hyper-local LGBTQIA+ community for beat assignment.

Specific duties would entail:

• Beat assignment in the hyper-local community

• Story Pitches

• Write 2 stories per month

• Make any edits/ corrections required by editor

• Provide 2-3 photos and captions per story

• Meet all deadlines

Qualifications:

• Experience in having articles published and/or

• 2+ years pursuing a journalism or PR degree

• Strong writing/ AP style skills

• Proficient communication skills

• Passion to serve the LGBTQIA+ community

The position would be held from January 7, 2019 through June 30, 2019. Interns should expect to work anywhere from 5-10 hours per week, but have no set “office hours,” as the work is story-based rather than hourly-based. The internship is unpaid, but can count for college credits and guarantees publication 1-2 times a month.
