Freida Pinto Spearheads Food Waste Drive

Around 1,100 people including those from the Los Angeles LGBT center were able to dine on leftover food from the Governor’s Ball following the Academy Awards ceremony, thanks to actress Freida Pinto and the organization, Copia.

Pinto, best known for her role in “Slumdog Millionaire” worked with Copia, which tackles food waste, to help deliver the food made by Wolfgang Puck, which included short ribs, octopus, golden baked potatoes with caviar, Oscar-shaped salmon and gold-dusted popcorn, reports Wenn Media.

“Our aim is to ensure that no one goes hungry in our film and TV town of Los Angeles, by recovering leftover foods from all of our big parties and events,” Pinto told Vanity Fair.

Pinto posted on her Instagram account, “Over Oscar Weekend, we partnered with Delancey Street, LA Mission, The Good Shepherd Shelter, LA LGBT Center, and IRC to feed over 1100 people in need (with perfectly edible gourmet meals that would have otherwise been wasted!) including veterans, Muslims, refugees, women, and children.

“We recovered almost 1,366lbs of high-quality food from the Vanity Fair After Party, Independent Spirit Awards, and the Women in Film Pre-Oscar Party.

“We can take care of our own community. It’s really quite simple!! #zerowaste#zerohunger #eatlikeastar @gocopia#Copia”
